Political Socialisation and the transition from school
In this follow up study, based at the Institute of Education, we worked with groups of early school leavers at a time when the customary transition routes to work were breaking down. We reviewed the careers guidance material being produced by the educational authorities and developed a critique of the’new vocationalism’. We also organised a major conference at the Institute of Education on this theme. See the essay ‘Against the New Vocationalism’ in Inge Bates et al Schooling for the Dole Macmillan and ‘Teaching Enterprise Culture: Individualism, Vocationalism and the New Right in Ian Taylor (ed) The Social Effects of Market Policies Harvester 1990.
