Finding the Way Home: Race, Place and identity in East London
A comparative study of youth cultures in East and South London in partnership with the Centre for Community and Urban Research at Goldsmiths and funded by the ESRC, combining visual ethnography with methods from narratology and psycho-geography. The project was twinned with a parallel initiative, using the same methodology in two areas of Hamburg. The findings from both studies ere published as Finding the Way Home, V&R Press Hamburg 2006. This material is also included in On the Wrong Side of the Track: East London and the Post Olympics Lawrence and Wishart 2013. The methods used in the project are presented and discussed in a film Methods in Dialogue. For an account of this project in relation to contemporary issues see ‘Both Sides of the Line’ on this website.
